I take more than my fair share of vacations. Last year I took about 3 one week or longer vacations. What I didn’t do very much was go away for the weekend. Vacations serve a utilitarian purpose. They are an opportunity to recharge. The daily grind is that for most people, a daily grind. Vacations can be great opportunity to break the what can be the monotony of work.
However, I’ll be the first to admit that I often have a hard time getting back to flow of things at work when I get back from Vacation. It’s hard at time to hit the floor running after a week in paradise. This year I’m thinking about taking more short vacations to augment my longer vacations. Short to me is 2 to 4 days.
So what do you prefer?

Of course I enjoy long vacations, as there’s nothing like actually SETTLING IN to a rest period. Realistically though, now that I have to divvy up several weeks - the short-many / one-medium option is the best.

I prefer the long vacations, but it seems for whatever reason that the last couple of years i’ve only taken the short ones. I’m leaving on vacation tomorrow to san francisco for a week, so this will be the longest one in a while. I can’t wait!

Short vacations save money, keep work from piling up, and are refreshing — all amounting to less stress when you return.
A long vacation is a shot of relaxation that doesn’t last beyond the day you return. Shorter trips can have more lasting results.
